For the first time in its history, BAMIN has released its Annual Sustainability Report for the year 2022. With 18 years of experience and effective operation since 2021, the publication of this report is a voluntary endeavor, further underscoring BAMIN’s commitment to transparency and its contribution to the realization of its mission in the pursuit of excellence. “This marks a significant milestone in enhancing the quality of the company’s sustainability information, addressing the primary concerns of our stakeholders,” says Rosane Santos, ESG Director, Community Relations, Environment, and Corporate Communication at BAMIN.
The BAMIN Annual Sustainability Report, which follows the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and was released this week, highlights the strategic steps taken by the company, as well as the opportunities and commitments made during the reporting period. Notable are the production figures from the Pedra de Ferro Mine in Caetité, Bahia. In 2022, the company handled 5 million tons of iron ore and other lithologies in its pre-stripping activities, achieving an impressive 99.9% adherence to the established quality standards for the company’s premium ore product in the market.
Another notable aspect is the surge in mining requests for mineral exploration. In the past year, we recorded over 300 authorizations, marking a remarkable 600% increase compared to 2021.
Additionally, the due diligence process for Stretch 1 of the West-East Integration Railway (FIOL) deserves recognition, as it paves the way for the start of construction later this year.

The report highlights that in the past year, the company achieved a total of 6,702,319.1 man-hours worked without any lost-time injuries since October 2019. This impressive safety record pertains to the Integrated Stone of Iron Project, which encompasses the Pedra de Ferro Mine, FIOL 1, and Porto Sul.
In 2022, the company’s outstanding performance garnered several awards and secured its position in key rankings within the mining industry. Notably, BAMIN received certification as a GPTW (Great Place to Work) company, a testament to the organization’s culture of integration. This culture places a high value on the quality of employee treatment, emphasizes the respect leaders show for their teams, and fosters a welcoming atmosphere for all within the organization.

Socio-environmental performance
BAMIN aspires to be a leading organization in community development around its enterprises. The company has made significant strides in its social and environmental programs, notably the Canteiro Escola Project, a partnership with SENAI aimed at enhancing the skills of local labor through vocational courses, and the Transform Project, which fosters entrepreneurship among productive groups within local communities.
Regarding socio-environmental management, BAMIN initiated the use of software for ensuring compliance with licenses and legal requirements for its enterprises. This software, called Licentia, was implemented in 2023.
In addition, last year, BAMIN became a member of the CEBDS (Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development) and joined the United Nations Global Compact.
